Doonesbury cartoons have been quite informative during the 2008 Presidential Election campaign (McCain-Palin vs. Obama-Biden). For example, in a series of cartoons in the week of 2008 Oct 6 to 11, Doonesbury reported that McCain has about 177 lobbyists working on his 2008 presidential campaign.

And, reportedly, about 84 of those lobbyists, including his campaign manager, have lobbied for the financial industry.

Doonesbury wrote "As McCain likes to say about 'pork-barrelers', let's make 'em famous." --- and he generated the following series of six cartoons.

I originally cut these cartoons out of our local paper and used the 42 names of lobbyists that I found in these toons to make a web page. I made the web page so that I (and others) could quickly --- by simply clicking on a name --- Google search on each name plus the word "lobbyist" --- to verify that they are indeed lobbyists and to provide a way to quickly find more information on each of these "fellow citizens".

I went to the Doonesbury website, www.doonesbury.com, to see if I had missed any toons in that series that would provide me the names of the entire 84 financial lobbyists --- and maybe even the 177 lobbyists that Doonesbury (Trudeau) mentioned.

I found that it is PAINFULLY SLOW to go from cartoon to cartoon at the Doonesbury-cartoon archive site via the doonesbury.com site. So, below, I have provided links to the last several months of cartoons, which are at the "images.ucomics.com" archival site.

Click on these dates, and you will see the cartoons A HECK OF A LOT FASTER that you will see them at the "www.doonesbury.com" site. (The dates of Sunday comics are bold numerals.)

I may replace these chronological links someday with links to groups of cartoons that are part of a series --- cartoons that I think really 'hit home' on a topic.

Comments on accessing more of the daily-images quickly :

If Doonesbury political cartoons other than these prove to be appealing to make available easily, I may someday provide groups of dates --- to provide quick access to cartoon series of his that I think really 'hit home'.

Alternatively, I could make "thumbnails" of the cartoons so that one could quickly see the nature of the cartoon, and bring up a cartoon by clicking on a thumbnail, rather than a date. BUT, it would take a lot of effort and time to gather the many cartoons --- in order to make the thumbnail images.

Another (third) means of FASTER-presentation: I could provide a "slideshow" page for the cartoons. (Maybe later. This requires tailoring some Javascript code.)
