Here is a slideshow of large (1024x768) images of the matches that UVA played at the 2008 NCAA regional --- May 10, 11 --- Farleigh-Dickinson, then Penn State (after Penn State beat VCU). (If you are on a slow connection, like slow wireless or dial-up, you may have to set the delay-seconds up from 5 seconds to 15 or more. Otherwise, the first picture will be frozen in place and none of the other 1024x768 images will have enough time to replace it. Alternatively, here is a slideshow of smaller (320x240) images. This may be better for viewing the slideshow on a slow connection.) These are mostly pictures of UVA players --- but I got quite a few pictures of Michael James of Penn State as he played the #1 player of VCU in their singles match on May 10. The slideshow shows images in the same chronological order that I took the pictures --- first the May 10 pictures, then May 11. The May 10 matches (UVA versus Farleigh-Dickinson ; Penn State versus VCU) were played outdoors on the Snyder tennis courts. The May 11 final match (UVA versus Penn State) was started outdoors on the Snyder courts. The doubles finished outdoors, but the singles were interrupted by rain and finished indoors at the Boar's Head (Boyd Tinsley) courts. I generally tried to take the pictures close to the time that the ball was struck. Occasionally you will see the (blurred) ball in a picture. These photos were taken with a 10 megapixel Fuji Finepix S1000fd, which has a 12-to-1 optical zoom capability --- manual options such as shutter-priority and aperture-priority. I used shutter-priority on many of these photos. Considering that it is not a professional camera, that this is the first time that I used the camera, and that I did not have a tripod at this event, most of the pictures came out reasonably clearly. A few are blurred to an unsatisfactory extent, but I kept them. I only disposed of a few photos that were over-exposed. Luckily, in this batch, I did not have any photos in which the player was almost out of the frame. Here is a list of results of the May 10 and 11 matches --- giving the names of the players.
