INTRODUCTION :

Over the years, after responding to some 'unsolicited' requests-for-money by sending money to some charity organizations (to several different charities per year, one or two donations each), an individual (who shall be called 'Individual Two') was apparently put on one or more mailing lists.

Eventually, that person was getting requests for money from *WAY* more organizations than the several ones (about 15 different ones) to which that person gave money --- about 7 times as many organizations.

'Individual Two' implies there is an 'Individual One'. Yes there is.
'Individual One' will be described/defined below.

For example, 'Individual Two' gave to one charity that provides medical services world-wide to people who have vision problems.

Within a month or two after giving to that 'help-for-the-vision-impaired' organization, 'Individual Two' started receiving requests from other such organizations --- eventually getting requests from about 5 different such 'vision-aid' organizations.

Second example: 'Individual Two' gave to one charity that provides financial aid to students at a college for American Indians. Within a month or two after giving to that 'help for American Indians' organization, 'Individual Two' started receiving requests from other such 'American Indian aid' organizations --- eventually getting requests from at least 4 different such organizations.

What is particularly annoying is that some organizations keep sending requests approximately monthly --- and some even more often.

Many 'non-profit' organizations send requests to the same person month-after-month-after-month. They do NOT restrict themselves to one or two requests annually --- AND THEY SHOULD.

A HOPE FOR 'MAIL REFORM' :

To help keep track of which organizations are 'blitzing' 'Individual Two' with unsolicited, unwanted 'requests-for-money', this web page was started --- to keep track of organization-names and receipt-dates.

Another web page collects data on another person's receipts of 'requests-for-money' --- an 'Individual One' web page.

The case of 'Individual One' is particularly outrageous because 'Individual One' died in January 2017 --- and the requests for money went on-and-on in 2017 --- multiple, month-after-month requests from MANY 'charity' organizations --- even week-after-week requests from some 'charity' organizations.

These 'charity' organizations would be more properly called 'harassment' organizations.

Many of these organizations claim to have a 4-star (top) rating from the 'Charity Navigator' organization.

It sure seems like 'Charity Navigator' is not taking into account the fact that many of these organizations are 'harassing' their past donors for more money --- WAY too frequently.

If there were a highly-weighted 'obnoxiousness-factor' in the 'Charity Navigator' rating algorithm, many of the organizations that are 'blitzing' 'Individual One' and 'Individual Two' would have a 'zero-star' rating.

It is my hope that data like the data for 'Individual One' and 'Individual Two' may someday be used to devise some sort of REASONABLE 'do not mail' system, like the National 'Do Not Call' registry system --- NOT controlled by the 'direct mail' industry --- RATHER controlled by a government agency that is supposed to serve ALL the people --- not just greedy money-scroungers.

It would have to be a federal government agency --- NOT state government agencies --- because this junk mail is usually crossing state boundaries.

For example, one solution might be to allow for registering the fact that a person does not want to receive mail of a certain mass-mailing class, such as 'Non-Profit Organization' mail.

Probably a new 'organization-category' should be established --- say a 'Non-related Organization'. Any organization that is not

  • a family member of the individual, nor
  • a family-friend of the individual, nor
  • a current essential service-provider of the individual

where 'essential service-providers' would include utility companies --- and health-care providers --- and 'current' financial service providers (such as banks and brokerages and credit card companies).

An individual should be able to register to receive NO snail-mail from 'Non-related Organizations'.

In any case, NO organization should be allowed to send more than two money-requests per year to any one individual --- no exceptions --- even when there are more than 2 calamities per year in world 'hot-spots', for example. Medical and food-provider organizations should be able to raise enough with 2 appeals per year.

They can advertise in the media if they need more. There is already so much 'ad spam' on TV and on the internet and in magazines and newspapers, that a little more, from the 'charitable-organization community', will not be noticeable. It would be part of the 'advertising noise' that is dominating those media. That noise is just about crowding out 'content' on TV and the internet, and in most magazines. Charitable-organization ads would be a small percent of that noise.

If these 'money-request controls' fail to make it through the horrible political processes of the current USA, then, at least, the mail rates of 'Non-Profit Org' mail should be raised to at least 50-percent of the first-class mail rate that individuals have to pay.

A web posting indicates that, in England, one can get a free "No Junk Mail" sticker for your mailbox, from a government agency. This could work in the U.S. --- to signal a postal delivery person to NOT deliver 'Non Profit Org' mail to that mailbox (or mail slot).

At the very least, the mailing costs for 'Non Profit Org' mail should be increased to make it less appealing to 'bombard' individuals with requests for money. These organizations would have themselves to blame. They have abused a very lenient system that favored their opt-everyone-in ways --- a system that essentially shuts down opportunities for people to opt-out in a cost-free and minimum-time-required way.

If you look up the way that the US Post Office charges for bulk mail, you will find that the formula(s) are multiple and complex, but the end result is that bulk mailers are paying about 12 cents (or less) per envelope whereas the postage stamps for 'general' mail are about 48 cents per envelope --- about 4 times more.

A law should set, for bulk mail, a minimum of 50 percent of the 'general' mailing cost. In 2017, a cost of about 24 cents per envelope in bulk mail would probably make bulk mailers think twice about sending month-after-month or week-after-week bulk mailings --- to the same recipients --- for their client 'charity' and other money-seeking organization(s).

Currently, it seems that bulk mailers do not care about whether they are sending out 'duplicate' (recently sent) organization-requests to a person. Nor do they seem to care that they send frequent (even weekly) organization-requests to dead people ... even after being notified that they are dead.

In the cases of extreme 'mail abuse', the 'non-profit' organizations (and their titular heads) should become subject to tax-exempt status review (and personal tax review) by the national and state tax authorities.

DATA COLLECTED BELOW :

The data that is collected below includes date(s)-of-receipt --- along with some other features of the mailed money-request --- along with the organization name.

The 'return address' on the enclosed 'return envelope' is recorded for each organization. This is usually a Post Office Box --- and it seems that it is usually the PO Box of a 'bulk mailing' contractor.

Some additional information is collected --- such as web address, phone numbers, and alternative mailing addresses such as street addresses --- if these data-nuggets are available in the various paperwork items included with the money request.

ORGANIZATION OF THIS PAGE :

I considered organizing the organization-names (and their 'requests-for-money' mail-data) in 'subject' categories, but I decided that it would be difficult to decide what 'subject' categories to use --- and, it would become difficult, for any given requesting organization, to decide to which 'subject' category that organization (and its money-request-dates) should be assigned.

For example, should 'vision-help' organization requests go into a 'Medical' category section of this page --- or a 'Vision' category section --- or a 'Blind' category section?

And should 'American-Indian-help' organization requests go into an 'Education' category section of this page --- or an 'American Indian' category section --- or a 'Colleges' category section?

Since this page will get very long, with many hundreds of lines corresponding to requests received, I decided it may become difficult to remember into which category (page-section) I should enter a new request for money.

I decided to keep the page-sections in alphabetical order by name of the organization. For example, 'American Cancer Society' organization requests go in an 'A' section --- and 'St. Joseph's Indian School' organization requests should go in an 'S' section.

---

The following 'Table of Contents' (the alphabet) can be used to quickly to go to 'alphabet-sections' on this page.

Within each 'alphabet-section', there are sections corresponding to 'organization name' --- and in those 'organization' sections are lists of dates, when requests for money were received.

In some cases, the mail was delivered when the recipient was out of town. In those cases, an approximate receipt-date is given --- indicated by a 'twiddle' (tilde) character. Example: 2017mar10~, instead of 2017mar10 --- for mail received sometime between 2017mar05 and 2017mar16, for example --- where these dates represent a time when the recipient was away.

In each 'organization name' section, there may be a 'WEB SEARCH' link that provides a web search on the name of the organization --- and a web search on the name of an officer in the organization.

These web searches are meant to help check whether the organization may be a 'scam' --- or at least a known 'client abuser'.

In fact, after clicking on a 'WEB SEARCH' link, the search can be 'enhanced' by adding keywords such as 'scam' or 'complaint'.

RETURN ENVELOPE -- METERED OR STAMP-REQUIRED :

Each organization is tagged 'meter' (or 'metered') or 'stamp' (or 'stamp-reqd') to indicate whether they include a return envelope that is metered --- or an envelope that requires a stamp be added.

'Metered' return envelopes facilitate a reply to ask to be taken off of their mailing list(s). They --- the organization or their bulk mailing contractor --- may not do so, but at least the request is free if a metered-mail envelope can be used.

(Actually, it is NOT free, because we citizens are subsidizing all this junk mail --- thanks to Republicans and others in Congress who pass laws, and amendments to laws, that promote the 'free enterprise' of blitzing people with repeated requests --- and scams --- for money.)

In the case of metered return envelopes being available, I keep track of number of times (dates) that requests were SENT --- via metered mail --- to be taken off of an organization's mailing list(s). This is in addition to keeping track of the money-request-receipt-dates.

I do this with a 'SENT REMOVE/STOP REQUEST:' paragraph in each 'metered'-organization section of this page.

A SAMPLE 'REMOVE-STOP NOTE'

After some weeks of sending various 'REMOVE' and 'STOP' notices in 'metered' return envelopes, it became clear that several REMOVE-and-STOP topics need to be addressed.

In a typical 'remove-and/or-stop note' to a money requester, one should say:

    1) REMOVE the name-address from your mailing lists.

This also implies:

    2) STOP sending money requests to this individual.

    3) STOP 'renting'/exchanging/sharing the name-address to/with other money-requesting organizations.

In order to reduce the amount of writing to add to each return-mail enclosure, a one-page 'REMOVE-and-STOP' page could be returned in each envelope.

Here is a sample PDF version and a sample plain-text version.

These sample pages have 5 'blank-areas' that can be filled in, for

  • 'victim' ('addressee') name

  • approx. number of MONEY-REQUESTS-RECEIVED-PER-YEAR

  • approx. MAXIMUM number of MONEY-REQUESTS-RECEIVED IN A DAY

  • approx. NUMBER OF MONEY-REQUESTERS sending requests per year

  • approx. NUMBER OF CHARITIES DONATED-TO

These sample pages could be changed to fit the situation of a particular 'victim' --- or make changes as the situation changes.

Note that the plain-text version could be pasted into a word-processor program window and edited as desired --- then printed from the word-processor.

PHONE NUMBER INSTEAD OF RETURN ENVELOPE

Note that some organizations do not include a return envelope --- neither metered nor requiring a stamp. They usually supply a phone number to call.

These are usually definite scams --- often of our Medicare system, driving up costs and gaming that system. Example: "Call us for a free back brace. We will submit the paperwork to Medicare for you."

I warn against calling their phone-number, because they will probably capture your phone number and abuse it (or sell it to other scammers), and then you will be inundated with phone calls as well as mail.

I may indicate organizations that are probable scams with a 'scam?' note in one of the paragraphs for that organization.

By the way, Edward Snowden did us the favor of revealing that the NSA (National Security Agency) is monitoring essentially all phone calls --- of about 300 million Americans --- essentially the entire adult population (and their children). So the NSA probably has a good idea where phone-scammers are in the USA --- and abroad.

The NSA has the ability to clamp down on scammers (or at least report abuses to other agencies, such as Medicare) --- but the NSA chooses not to do so.

The NSA could do a lot more good for the country by using their information to put people who are scamming our government agencies, like Medicare, in 'corn-holio' prison.

If the NSA is going to violate the 4th Amendment rights of about 300 million Americans --- by using a nation-inclusive 'blanket' search warrant instead of individual warrants, then those Americans should get maximized benefits from that surveillance.

Surely the 'founding fathers' would be shocked at the use of a single nation-including 'search warrant'.

Furthermore, besides potential of monitoring of phone-based-scam-and-spam, it has been reported that the NSA stores the information from USPS 'mail cover' scans --- especially since the Patriot Act of 2001.

Hence, the NSA probably could get a good handle on the 'processing centers' that are generating weekly/monthly 'physical mail' to individuals. Thus the NSA could reduce the millions (?) of tons of useless paperwork --- such as extremely-repetitive paperwork sent to 'targeted victims' --- that get thrown into trash cans every year --- much of it probably never recycled.

REDUCING THE MAIL DELUGE
(and catching-and-neutering scammers)

I believe there should be some sort of 'Do Not Mail' facility of the U.S. government --- like the 'Do Not Call' list. (Unfortunately, Republican congress-people keep enacting more and more exceptions to that phone list, making it almost ineffective now.)

Certain classes of ('non-profit' and 'profit') organizations should be required to honor that 'Do Not Mail' database, by not sending mail to those 'first-name,last-name,address' entries that are in the database.

The data on this web page could be used to gather information to petition Congress or various government agencies to clamp down on the 'blitzing' of citizens with frequent requests/demands for money --- especially requests/demands that appear to be scams.

In fact, this data could be used to clamp down on UNSOLICITED requests for money. (Opt-in should be required --- in order to send the recipient more than one initial piece of mail. In addition, there should be easy, cost-free opt-out.)

For example, Congress should, at the very least, clamp down on those scammers that try to pose as a charitable organization --- AND those that imply that they are an agency of the federal government or approved by such an agency (by quoting U.S. statutes -- or by using statute-like jargon/warnings -- or by using names like government agencies -- or by using titles that make them sound like they are government officers).

For another example, the appropriate agency should clamp down on organizations (and their bulk-mail contractors) who send more than 2 organization-money-requests per year to any individual.

The 'offending' organization should be reported to the FBI, Congress, the Commerce Department, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), or other government organizations --- such as the Consumer Protection Bureau --- that is, if such procedures can survive a Republican Congress and a Republican President (who seem to think that unsolicited mail is 'free enterprise' and thus sacred).

NO REASONABLE, LOW-COST 'OPT-OUT'
(and involuntary 'Opt-In')

Essentially none of the 100-plus organizations listed below offer a reasonable Opt-Out option --- such as an 800 number to call or a metered-mail reply envelope for free mailing. (Not even a check box on the donation form to opt-out of future mailings.)

For example the '20|20|20' organization (a charity for the blind) has the following sentence in extremely small print on the back of one of their donation forms:

If you do not wish to receive these mailings or if you'd like to change the frequency of mailings from us, let us know.

--- with no instructions on how to let them know. There is no 800 number to call --- and no metered return mail envelope --- and no check-box to opt-out of future mailings on the front of that donation form.

Note that it is rather ironic that an organization for the blind puts this notice in extremely small print --- so small that many senior citizens with poor vision will probably be unable to read it.

Also note that the message indicates that this organization is automatically 'opting-in' their 'victims' to FREQUENT mailings --- without their permission.

Also note that if a person had to contact the approximately 150 organizations below to 'opt-out' of future mailings, using mail at about 50-cents a stamp on each return envelope, the cost would be about seventy-five dollars (in 2017) --- not to mention all the wasted time doing the mailing.

And if someone had to use the phone numbers of these organizations (mostly non-800 numbers, if any phone number is even provided), a person could use the equivalent of all their cell phone minutes for a month --- or run up a large long-distance calling bill.

And in either case --- that is, snail-mailing to opt-out or phone-calling to opt-out --- there is no guarantee that they will actually opt you out --- or be able to opt you out.

You may be on so many mailing lists, that are circulating around, that your name will keep popping up at these organizations --- or at the contractors that they use to do the mailings.

THE 'MEMBERSHIP FEE' TRICK

Some organizations indulge in what I call a 'mild form of scamming'. They consider your donation a 'membership fee' and then bombard you with reminders that your membership fee is due --- often much more frequently than annually.

I may indicate those organizations or requests with a 'membership' tag.

THE 'SURVEY FORM' TRICK

Some organizations seem to try to draw attention away from their main aim (to get your money) by including a survey form for you to fill out --- as if you want to spend your valuable time filling out a form that will typically lead to nothing being accomplished.

I may indicate those organizations or requests with a 'survey' tag.

THE 'PETITION' TRICK

Some organizations include petitions (typically to be sent to your Congress persons) rather than a survey. Meanwhile, they mainly want your money. They would never mail you simply a petition with no request for money. At least, I have never seen that happen.

I may indicate those organizations or requests with a 'petition' tag.

THE 'ANONYMOUS ENVELOPE' TRICK

Some organizations do not put the name of the organization on the outside of the envelope that is received. (This is probably to make it less likely that the envelope will be thrown away without opening it.)

I may indicate those organizations or requests with an 'anonymous' tag.

Upper-case 'ANONYMOUS' indicates that NEITHER the name nor the address of the organization was on the outside of the received envelope.

Lower-case 'anonymous' indicates the address of the organization was on the outside of the envelope WITHOUT the name of the organization.

THE 'GUILT' TRICK

Some organizations may put an unsolicited 'gift' in the envelope, such as

  • coin(s)
  • return-address labels
  • a notepad
  • greeting cards
  • a calendar
  • a check (void or valid), that they do not want you to cash
  • etc.

I may indicate those organizations or requests with a tag like 'coin' or 'labels' or 'notepad' or 'cards' or 'calendar'.

TOO MANY CLOSELY-SPACED REQUESTS
(from the same organization)

No doubt many of these organizations are sincerely trying to do good.

However, those that send multiple requests per month (or quarter or year) are wearing out their welcome --- and they become 'suspect'.

At best, they are not doing 'due diligence' --- that is, they are not trying to make sure that they do not 'bombard' individuals with repeated requests for money.

Some of the organizations sending frequent requests for money (about a month apart, or less) to this 'Individual Two' are listed below --- with '[S]' indicating they used 'stamp-required' return envelopes and '[M]' indicating they used 'metered' (or postage-supplied) return envelopes --- and '[S,M]' or '[M,S]' indicating they used some of each.

  • AARP and AARP Foundation (and insurance affiliates) [S] (too often)
  • ACLU [M] (approximately monthly, at LEAST 12 times per year)
  • American Farmland Trust [M] (more often than monthly)
  • American Indian College Fund [M,S] *** (about every 2 WEEKS)
  • Amnesty International [M,S] (at least 6 times per year)
  • Berea College [M] (at least 6 times per year)
  • Common Cause [M] (at least 6 times per year)
  • Drug Policy Alliance [M] *** (about every 2 WEEKS)
  • Environmental Defense Fund [M] *** (about every 2 WEEKS)
  • FINCA [S] *** (more often than monthly)
  • Heritage University [S] (at least 8 times per year)
  • Oxfam America [M] (at least 6 times per year)
  • People for the American Way [M] *** (approx. monthly)
  • Smile Train [S] *** (at least 6 times per year)
  • Wilderness Society [M] *** (approx. monthly)

And, of these, the following are sending money-requests approximately EVERY 2 WEEKS --- RIDICULOUS! (Twice a year should be the limit. Once a quarter is too many.)

  • American Farmland Trust [M]
    (money-requests more often than monthly)

  • American Indian College Fund [M,S]
    (money-requests almost EVERY 2 WEEKS)

  • Drug Policy Alliance [M]
    (almost every 2 WEEKS)

  • Environmental Defense Fund [M]
    (about every 2 WEEKS)

  • FINCA [S]
    (almost every 2 weeks)

What is happening in these cases? Are they using every mailing list that they can get their hands on --- and not checking for duplicates??

Have they 'contracted-out' their mailings, and the contractor is not checking for duplicates? Is the contractor motivated to mail frequent money-requests because he/she is rewarded by how much money he/she brings in?

Is the US Post Office a willing/unwilling participant by 'publishing' 'change of address form' info --- which bulk-mail contractors regularly skim for addresses?

Even if the 'bulk-mail-contractors' are the actual perpetrators of 'overly-frequent' money-requests, the executives of these organizations are failing to properly oversee/monitor/audit the mailings that are performed on behalf of their organizations.

The executives, whose names are shown below, should be held accountable --- as well as the 'processing center' people that they employ.

Judging by PO-box return addresses, it looks like there are bulk mail contractors in:

  • Merrifield, VA
  • Topeka, KS
  • Milford, NH
  • Hagerstown, MD
  • as well as Washington DC

Perhaps this quote from the small print at the bottom of a 'Make-A-Wish' cover letter offers some explanation of what is going on here:

From time to time, Make-A-Wish rents or exchanges its list of supporters with other trusted organizations to benefit our programs and activities.

and small print from a 'Defenders of Wildlife' return-mail envelope:

Defenders occasionally shares mailing list information with like-minded organizations.

and from 'World Vision':

We may disclose some donor information to select third parties in order to more effectively target our fundraising communications.

Does 'effectively target' mean 'deluge with repeated requests'?

In very small print on the back of a 'Coalition to Salute America's Heroes' donation form, there are 'Do not rent my name' instructions. BUT ... once the name-address is rented, how does one possibly un-rent it? What does 'renting a name-address' actually mean --- other than SELLING someone's name-address?

Is there a 'feeding frenzy' of money-request-mailings being generated by a 'cross-pollination' of 'rents'-and-'exchanges' of mailing lists? a 'feed-back loop'? that causes a 'squeal' (of outrage).

The PO-box and city-state on the return envelopes are probably, in most cases, the addresses of the contractors (the 'processing centers' or 'operations centers' or 'service centers' or 'fulfillment centers' or 'correspondence centers') handling the mailings of these organizations.

I supply those PO-box numbers for most of the organizations below. Maybe someone in Merrifield/Topeka/Milford/Hagerstown/DC can track down the poor excuses for human beings that are clogging up the U.S. mail system, in general, and deluging the mail addresses of 'Individual One' and 'Individual Two', in particular.

I am willing to bet $100 that many of these mail-contractors got their start by handling political mailings for Republicans or Democrats --- perhaps funded initially by the likes of the Koch Brothers --- and that, between elections, these mail-contractors found that they could earn some extra cash by handling the mail of charitable and scammer organizations.

And now, we are never going to see the end of this deluge, since these mail-contractors have powerful lobbyists patrolling the halls of Congress.

ON POSTAGE :

I think it is quite obnoxious that a majority of these organizations send 'stamp required' return envelopes --- some of them even pre-marked 'First Class'.

This means that they are requiring us to put a 48-cents (or more) stamp on their envelope, when they could use their bulk mail privileges to provide a return envelope that would cost them about 10 cents (or less) in postage --- probably only if the return envelope is used.

They make it sound like they will save a bunch of money if we put about 50 cents in postage on their unstamped return envelope --- when they are asking for a minimum of 15 dollars in donations --- and/or monthly deductions from your bank account --- and/or a part of your estate when you die.

Meanwhile, they could provide the postage for about 80 percent less than we have to pay.

DISGUSTING!

OPTING OUT OF THE DELUGE :
(a very rare opportunity)

So far (up to 2017 Jun 07), I have found only one of the following organizations that offers an opt-out '800' phone number.

Note that if you call such a phone number, they can capture your phone number and then you may be inundated with phone money-requests as well as snail-mail money requests --- from that organization and from organizations with whom they 'share' your phone number.

And I have found none who offer an opt-out 'check-box' option in their money-request forms that are to be returned via snail-mail.

Any opt-out option presented is, invariably, in exremely small print.

A BOTTOMLESS PIT OF REQUESTORS ??
(and never-ending requests)

I was hoping to populate this page with a set of organization names, and then simply have to add a new date once in a while --- to an organization name already on this page. BUT ...

It seems there is a bottomless pit of money-requestors --- with various names involving the word

  • 'Heart/Lung/Kidney' or

  • 'Alzheimer/Cancer/Diabetes/Parkinson' or

  • 'Children/Child/Kid/Tot' or

  • 'Soldier/Veteran/Wounded/Hero/Warrior/ArmedForces/Platoon' or

  • 'Blind/Eye/Vision/Sight/See/Glaucoma/MacularDegeneration' or

  • 'Wilderness/Environment/Earth/Nature' or

  • 'Wildlife/Wild/Animal' or

  • 'Horse/Equine' or

  • 'Dog/K9/Mutt/Paws'

New organization-names --- using variations on these pieces of organization-names --- seem to keep being generated.

Surely not all of these are on the 'up-and-up'. How to know which are 'best in class'??

It seems they are forcing us not to give to ANY of them --- otherwise, if we give to just one, our mail-addresses are likely to end up in an ever-expanding set of mailing lists.

SAMPLE SEARCHES ON THIS PAGE :

The data on this page provides a lot of information.

Note that there are many ways you can use the 'word-search' option of your web browser to search this page for various 'categories' of information. Examples:

  • Search on date:
You can enter a date, like '2017jun05', to find all (or most) of the pieces of mail that arrived on 2017jun05. Or use '2017jun' to find all (or most) of the mail that arrived in that month.

  • Search on a PO-box-city:
You can enter a city, like 'Merrifield', to find the PO box numbers that are return-addresses in that city. It may be the case that numbers close together are used by a particular 'bulk-mail-contractor' --- in other words, that those box numbers are associated with a particular 'processing center'.

  • Search on a name like Blind or Sight:
You can enter part of a typical organizaton name, like 'blind' or 'sight' or 'vision' or 'see' or 'indian' or 'veteran' or 'hero' or 'warrior' or 'wounded', to find organizations that are making an appeal related to that name.

ENOUGH OF THIS INTRO.

A 'Table of Contents' follows --- the alphabet --- by which to easily access sections of this long page.

Note that the sum total of the following many mailings constitutes 'extreme harassment' of 'Individual Two'.

There are about 100 'organizations' in this list --- versus about 15 to which 'Individual Two' has given money. (There apparently is a lot of 'renting' and 'exchanging' of donor info going on.)

The typical number of money-requests per mail-day of this 'Individual Two' is/was 3 to 5 requests.

This is about 1,200 money-requests per year to one person --- given that there are about 300 mail delivery days in a year.

If the approximately 100 organizations were limited to 2 requests per year, there would be about 200 money-requests per year --- still too many (because of the number of organizations), but at least more reasonable.

2017mar07 (Wants 'membership'. 'Final Notice'. Already renewed.
This is one of many previous membership renewal requests - starting almost
six months before membership was to expire. Why renew? These people are horrible.)

    2017apr27
(Petitions to 3 local Congress people were enclosed.
'PETITIONS ENCOLOSED' in big red letters on the outer envelope.
Also 'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS' in black letters.

    2017jun28
(Petitions to 3 local Congress people were enclosed. Threatening tone:
'You have not responded to our previous letters.' on the outer envelope
    .
Also 'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS.' Bad tone. Nasty people.)

    2017sep19
(More threatening messages on outer envelope:
'You have not respondedto our previous letters.' in bold, black print.
'PETITIONS ENCLOSED' in bold red ink.
'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS' in black capital letters.
Petitions to 2 Senators and 1 Representative.
AARP wants more money to 'Protect Benefits!'.
They want to protect the Medicare hodge-podge, inefficient, multi-payer system.
They offer no suggestions for improvements. They seem to like it as it is.
These AARP people are full of themselves. Horrible people.)

    2017oct27~
(Again: 'PETITIONS ENCLOSED' in bold red ink.
'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS' in black capital letters.
Again: No 'metered' return envelope. Still nasty.)

    2017dec05
(Again: 'You have not responded to our previous letters.' on outer envelope.
'PETITIONS ENCLOSED' in bold red ink on outer envelope.
'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS' in black capital letters on outer envelope.
Again: No 'metered' return envelope. AND just as nasty as ever.)

    2017dec26
(Again: 'PETITIONS ENCLOSED' in bold red ink on outer envelope.
'RESPOND IN THE NEXT 14 DAYS' in black capital letters on outer envelope.
Petitions to 2 senators and 1 representative -- to protect Medicare.
    Again: No 'metered' return envelope.)

    NOTE:
It seems that AARP people think that they are so powerful that they can threaten
and try to shame people with messages on the envelopes that they send.
These are very, very horrible people.

  • RETURN ADDRESS: phone-call-req'd (no return envelope provided)
AARP Auto Insurance Program (The Hartford)
No return envelope, so no return address.

    Additional org info:
    aarp.thehartford.com ; 1-888-659-5516 or 1-888-761-6599 ;
The Hartford, 1 Hartford Plaza, Hartford CT 06155

A AARP/Hartford letter says call 1-888-567-8688 TransUnion to stop offers,
that is 'opt-out' ... OR use www.optoutprescreen.com ... OR write to:
TransUnion Opt Out Request, Box 505, Woodlyn, PA 19094-0505

    NOTE1:
TransUnion can get your phone# if you call them.
That might be one thing they do not have on you.
You may get lots of unsolicited sales phone calls from 3rd parties after that.

    NOTE2:
The Hartford gets 'pre-screening' info from your credit report.
What happened to credit-companies getting permission first from potential 'victims'
before giving personal information to insurance companies and other 3rd parties?

    NOTE3:
AARP and their 'partners' *NEVER* supply a metered return envelope.
With AARP, it is always 'stamp-required' or 'phone-call-to-partner-required'.
So it is hard and costly to give feedback to AARP. They don't want to hear it.
There should be legislation that requires metered return envelopes with opt-out options.

    RECEIPT DATES:

    2017jun28
(Letter from AARP and/or The Harford on Harford Auto Insurance program.
No return envelope. Only 888 number to call. Too much insurance junk-mail
and ads due to AARP. AARP is a bad organization.
    Membership is a regrettable experience.)

    2017aug21
(You get a 'free' calculator if you request a quote.
Included a 'Priority Express Savings Card'. What BS!),

    2017sep11
(Again - You get a 'free' calculator if you request a quote.)

    2017oct10
(Another 'Call for free quote' letter. 'PreApproved Status' card included.)

    2017nov21
(Another 'call for a quote' letter --- with no 'metered' return envelope.)

    2017dec26
(Yet another call-888-number letter --- with no 'metered' return envelope.)

    2018jan30
(Yet another call-888-number letter --- with no 'metered' return envelope.)

    2018feb12
(Yet another call-888-number letter --- with no 'metered' return envelope.)

    2018mar02~
(Yet another call-888-number letter --- with no 'metered' return envelope.)

    NOTE:
This is really getting ridiculous --- about 1 unsolicited offer per month.
Does 'The Hartford' and AARP think people want to be 'pummeled'
    with insurance ads ???
To stop the harrassment, there should be legislation that requires 'opt-in'
to unsolicited sales mail --- and that outlaws automatic/default 'opt-in'.

    HEY, ACS:
What is up with money-requests almost every month ---
even every two weeks? This is HARASSMENT. Is 2017 the year that
junk-mail money-requests go OUT OF CONTROL? If they want
money they should supply a metered return envelope.
Their mail is subsidized by the taxpayer and stamp buyers. They pay MUCH
less than 10 cents per letter. The giver, more than 5 times more to mail. Added to all
the other money requests on this page, this is just too much for any person
to take. The requestee would be justified in not giving to a harassing organization
like this. Is the ACS hoping this is an Alzheimer's victim with poor memory ??

A-holes. They defend the horrible speech of Nazis, which leads to murders.
'Individual Two' will NEVER be a member of the ACLU. The ACLU does not know

    NOTE:
Repeated requests to be removed from the mailing list(s) of the DCCC
(and other Democrat organizations) are ignored. Just one more way
by which Democrats alienate voters --- especially independents.
They just don't understand that some people like to give to individual
candidates, rather than having their money doled out to not-liked people.

    NOTE:
'Individual Two' keeps returning the DSCC metered envelopes with
a message that he/she gives to *individual* candidates only. He/she
wants to choose where the gift goes. Cannot leave it up to the DSCC.
The DSCC makes too many bad choices. DSCC ignores when 'Individual Two'
says he/she will NEVER give them money. That's why they continually lose.
They don't listen to their potential constituents. They have their
    traditional, never-gonna-change ways.

'Individual Two' gave money to this org once, circa 2015 or 2016. Never again.
Look at the flood of money requests since then --- AT LEAST TWELVE requests

    NOTE:
These Drug Policy Alliance people keep ignoring STOP requests.
They (and/or their mail handling service) are horrible people.
They are horrible on multiple grounds: they harass AND refuse to stop
the harassment when asked to stop.
Congress should increase mailing rates for organizations like this ---
to the same rates 'ordinary' citizens pay.

SCAMS etc.

A link to pages of

  • probable and definite scammer organizations

may be added here at a future date --- based on even more money-requests sent to 'Individual Two'.

See the 'Individual One' page for examples of some really creepy scam snail-mail.

There is a strong possibility that the 'frequent-mailers' of money-requests/demands are hoping that the recipient is old and feeble-minded (for example, has Alzheimer's). It is quite likely that they are hoping that the 'old' recipients will send money as frequently as they receive requests/demands for money.

In fact, 'Individual One' and 'Individual Two' of these web pages were/are over 70 years old. It is quite likely that the 'frequent-mailers' are aware of their age and hence are bombarding them with monthly (or more frequent) mailings.

After starting these web pages in 2017, I ran across the following 10-year-old letter to the 'AARP Bulletin', a letter published in January 2007. It was titled 'Aggressive Charities'. The text follows.

It's no wonder your statistics show one in 10 over-65 adults giving $5,000 or more annually to charity [Bulletin Board, "With Age Comes Generosity"].

Several years ago, as my mother was starting to be unable to keep up with her bills, I saw that she was writing about $450 per month to various charities. My mom, who needed me to supplement her account quarterly, was sending checks in the $10 to $15 range, sometimes to the same charity every two weeks.

When I asked her about this, she said she was "paying bills" that the charities had sent her. Indeed, when I started collecting her mail, I understood her comment better. The charities --- in 25 to 30 letters a week --- were not asking for money, they were demanding it.

It borders on illegal to take advantage of older people --- as lonely as some are --- through such mailings.

    Jackie Ipp
    Lake Worth, Florida

Here are 'Individual One' and 'Individual Two' --- ten years later --- going through the same 'barrage' of money-'demands'.

It is WAY past time that the federal Congress should step into this mail-crossing-state-lines (and harassment of citizens, in-state as well as out-of-state) situation and

  • (1) lay down the law on the frequency of money-request/demand snail-mailings (and other appeals, like email) to any individual from any organization --- and

  • (2) provide penalties for violations (examples: suspension of bulk mail privileges, IRS investigations of the organization and its leaders, even jail time for those leaders) --- and

  • (3) require an opt-out-of-future-mailings checkbox with every money-request --- and

  • (4) require a metered return-envelope with every snail-mail money-request, so that recipients (victims) do not have to pay for being barraged with (unsolicited and unwanted) money requests.

But I will not hold my breath.

As was mentioned above, there are powerful mass-mailing lobbyists patrolling the halls of Congress. That rather small minority has managed to get Congress to protect their wicked ways --- and ignore the welfare of the vast majority of citizens of the United States. (There are absolutely horrible, unethical, sleeze-ball people in Congress.)

Some of the worst offenders --- who send too many closely-spaced money requests --- are listed above.

Many people are upset by the amount of junk mail that they get.

Some examples, on the internet, of complaints --- and ineffective 'solutions' --- and tedious semi-effective solutions --- follow.

You can find more examples by doing web searches such as:

from various (more-or-less charitable) organizations,
