INTRODUCTION : This page provides information on the ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard which is/was in my home-built desktop computer, circa 2010 Dec to 2012-plus. This motherboard was put in my computer after the original motherboard was 'fried' when the video board 'fried'. Background: In 2007, I assembled my first home-built desktop computer. After reading about 4 different descriptions of assembling a home-built computer, I realized it was simply a matter of ordering about 8 different components and putting them together. The components:
Here is a web page showing my original computer configuration (circa 2007). And here is a web page showing my revised configuration (circa 2011), after motherboard replacement, after the original video-board 'fried', taking the motherboard with it. The video board fried when I was trying to investigate the noise from a fan --- a noise which was steadily getting worse, month by month. It turns out the offending fan was on the video board. The video board was replaced by the fan-less on-board AMD video of the ASUS motherboard --- an ATI Radeon 3000 graphics controller/adapter. Here are a couple of views of the complete motherboard.
And here is a view of the back ports of the motherboard.
Guides/Manuals for the ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard : Here is an ASUS web page on the M4A78LTM motherboard --- including specs. In case that link goes dead, here is a PDF file containing a 4-page specifications guide for the ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard. Here is a PDF file containing a 45-page install/user guide for the ASUS M4A78LT-M motherboard. And here is a PDF file containing a 46-page install/user guide (English version) for the ASUS M4A78LT-M LE motherboard --- a similar motherboard. Here are some PDF guides that were included on the ASUS CD that came with the motherboard. Most of these motherboard (and non-motherboard) features --- like 'drivers' and other software --- involve an install procedure for Microsoft XP/Vista/Win7, and were not installed on my Linux PC. They were not needed for the functioning of the video, audio, and network components of the motherboard on Ubuntu 9.10 Linux.
